At Friday night’s council meeting, the village of Athens accepted the addition of McKinstry Parker and Rose to the Minear property west of East State Street. A unanimous resolution authorized a 600 loan to the board of public affairs for electric light extensions, with twelve new street lights and a five percent rate.

Hoover Charged With Taking Ellis Money and Watch
William Hoover aged 25 was arrested Saturday on charges of taking $82 in cash and a watch from Jacob Ellis at the Hallett saloon on Dean avenue after a night of drinking Ellis, a Pt. Pleasant W. Va. resident, said Hoover took his money while he was in a stupor. A warrant exists for Earl Kincade who left Athens and cannot be located. Hoover pleaded not guilty and was held, with a grand jury bond set at $300 after a Tuesday preliminary hearing.

Brakeman William Motley Hurt In Yard Collision
In Middleport Albany July 27 brakeman William Motley was struck by freight train No 87 while switching in the yard. He suffered a severely cut knee and body bruising with possible internal injuries. Motley was taken to the depot, treated by Dr Holmes, and may be laid up for several weeks. He is married about 30 years old and home is Middleport.

Funeral services for George D. Lake held near Toppers Plains
George D. Lake, a Civil War soldier aged 59, died July 17 of consumption. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday of last week by Rev. M. R. Crabb at Toppers Plains, with interment in Vanderhoof cemetery, Carth age township. He left a wife and eight children, all but one son in California attended.
