Nonagenarian Wickham Dies at Stewart Athens County
Warren W. Wickham, age about 90, longtime Rome township resident and farmer, died Wednesday night at his Stewart home after weeks of illness. He was born April 21, 1841, married Harriet A. James then Lucinda Barrows, leaves wife, three surviving children, twenty grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and several deceased siblings. Funeral Saturday at Broadwell Universalist church with interment in Broadwell cemetery. burial followed a life of agri cultural work and Universalist faith.

Chappel Wounded by Accidental Rifle Discharge
Dalton Chappell, a 32 year old school teacher, was wounded at his home north of Pleasanton in Alexander township by an accidental rifle discharge while shooting ground hogs. The bullet hit his left shoulder blade and neck, narrowly missing a major artery. surgeon Dr. A P White treated the wound and he may lose use of his arm due to a shattered bone.

University Names Athletic Director Hart from Cincinnati
H Ridgeway Hart of Cincinnati was engaged as athletic director for the coming year by the university committee of athletics. Hart has six years at eastern colleges and three years at Princeton, played half back on the champion team, and comes highly recommended in gymnasium work. He visited Athens recently and will start work in early autumn with over twenty five applicants considered.

Wilson Burned Attempting Escape From Fire
Cottage home of L. D. Wilson on West State Street burned about two o'clock Thursday. Wilson and his son Don escaped after the flames engulfed the building. Wilson was badly burned all over, with legs hands back and face severely scorched, but improving with medical care. The son fled to a relative and later notified his brother. The origin of the blaze is unknown but suspected to be an overturned lamp. gas was not involved. The loss includes the house and contents valued around $1,000 with no insurance. Wilson and family details follow, including a separate petition for alimony in a domestic matter involving his father-in-law.

Hollow Log Used as Fish Trap Finds Two Monsters
Stewart July 19 Charles McCune living near place solved fishing without gear by using a hollow log in the river as a natural trap. He found two large catfish, weighing about 45 and 25 pounds, alive inside the log after water kept them from dying. An axe freed the fish from their prison.

Hundred-plus patients moved from Columbus to Athens district
Over one hundred patients from Fairfield and Pickaway counties were admitted to the one state hospital in Columbus and then transferred to the Athens district. Dr. George Stockton supervised the move with O. L. Anderson, W. T. Riddle, and W. Marpley. The transfer occurred without mishap. Mrs. Stockton, the superintendent’s mother, planned to visit Athens but age prevented it. She was once a student at Ohio University during President McGuffey’s era.
