Protest over Athens County charter ballot rejection
A committee filed a protest with the Athens County Board of Elections over its July 8 vote finding the proposed county charter petition invalid. The protest seeks to have Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted review the decision and order the board to certify the charter for the November ballot. The group argues the board misread grounds for keeping the charter off the ballot and notes the state constitution does not require altering government form. See protest on page A7.
