Devoted Early Ohio Settler Elizabeth Francis Dies at 85
Elizabeth Francis born May 24 1801 in Barnstable Massachusetts died June 11 1886 in Athens Ohio at age 85 after a life of faith and resilience. She married twice first to C Gray then Thomas Francis and endured hardship including abandonment and the Hocking River bridge era. She leaves four sons and four daughters among numerous relatives and friends. Ann Eliza Knowles born April 18 1829 in Athens County died January 19 190? after long service to the M E Church and Cumberland Presbyterian church, suffering paralysis and a final peaceful death as a faithful follower of Jesus. Funeral rites were held at the family home with burial in the new cemetery.
