Removal of yards shifts to Chauncey near Athens

Railroads plan to move Corning Nelsonville and Logan yards and repair shops from Corning to Chauncey six miles above Athens. The new site would streamline a single large shop and yard complex, cut shipping times, and improve water supply and room for expansion. Rail lines to Chauncey and related routes will be joined and upgraded, with spring work expected to begin.

Miss Georgia Rorick Dies After Pulmonary Illness

Miss Georgia Rorick eldest daughter of Supt and Mrs E A Rorick of the State Hospital died Saturday after a lingering pulmonary illness. At Colorado with her mother the high altitude did not improve her condition and she passed away surrounded by family. A bright, beloved 19 year old, she spent time in the wards aiding fellow patients and brightened the hospital. Her body lay in state, services were held, and burial followed at Fayette. The community extends sympathy to Dr and Mrs Rorick.

Ohio University juniors and freshmen clash in campus party mischief

At Grace Scott's Sunnyside home freshmen and juniors staged a mock feud during a university social. The raid featured a rush, property loss including hats and gloves, and the capture of General Wagoner. Faculty dismissed classes to permit the spectacle, and both sides claimed victory amid lighthearted mayhem.

Augustus P Linscott marked his forty fourth birthday Tuesday night with about twenty friends at his home. The gathering, a long running yearly visit to Canaan, featured a refined turkey dinner and a leather rocker gift. Judge Sayre served as master of ceremonies and F W Bush presented the gift on behalf of the guests.

A letter from Dr. Dudley W. Welch, now captain and surgeon in the U S volunteers, details conditions on Leyte and Samar islands. Waterloo pioneer James Baden longtime Waterloo township resident

James Baden a prominent Waterloo township figure died January 21 after a sudden illness three days after a grip attack. He lived over fifty years on his Waterloo farm, served as township clerk, belonged to Christian Church, and was a stone mason who assisted with the Marietta Cincinnati railway project. Surviving are two brothers Hugh Baden of Greyfield and William J Baden of Morgan county, a wife Joanna Nichols whom he married in 184*, and three children Mrs Mary B Germann and Neden of Marshfield and W J Baden of Almora.

First Spanish War Pension Granted to Athens County Resident

Hadley C. Hawk of the Plains in Athens County received the first Spanish American War pension in the county. His claim, filed twenty months ago, was approved for 210 dollars monthly with back arrears totaling about one thousand. Hawk served in Company B of the 7th O. V. and was injured during a detail at Samp Meade, leading to a permanent disability cited in his pension. The note also mentions a church event where the ladies of Christ will serve supper in the Jensen dining hall on Fridays, February 1 through il, from two to four.

Death of Athens County official John W Jackson

John W Jackson longtime Athens County commissioner died at his Nelsonville residence Sunday after a brief illness from Brights disease. Born April 2 1828 in Manchester Township Morgan County he lived in York and Hocking counties before settling in Nelsonville. He served as county commissioner after winning the Republican nomination and was respected for integrity and businesslike leadership. Funeral was held at the Nelsonville Methodist Church with Masonic lodge participation.
