Plans for a brick two story infirmary building at Chauncey, costing about $40,000, were approved by the state board of charities. Architect D W Peoples of Athens prepared them, with completion aimed for next fall. The old infirmary burned Sept. 19. a temporary structure is in use while the new, nearly fireproof facility will house about 106 inmates.

Bridge at Herrold's mill to be repaired
County commissioners awarded a contract to the American Bridge company to repair the iron bridge at Herrold's mill one mile west of Athens. The bridge will be refloored and fitted with new steel joists. Repairs start early next summer and will cost about 300 dollars.

Death of John H Slaughter in Athens Tuberculosis
John H Slaughter aged 25 died Saturday afternoon at his sister Mrs James Edmundson’s home on Washington street after a prolonged tuberculosis illness. He was a tailor and former employee of F L Preston company. He leaves a wife and one child, his parents, four sisters, two brothers and a number of relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Christian church with Rev T L Lowe officiating. interment in the new cemetery. Mild Smallpox In Buchtel Continues To Spread Mildly
An epidemic of smallpox is progressing in Buchtel with all cases mild and no fatalities. Over the past weeks at least twenty five people have been infected and seven new cases have appeared recently. Schools are closed and quarantines kept in the most serious cases. Nearby Orbiston Murray City and Nelsonville report mild cases as well. A suspected introduction from Columbus and Kentucky links to a previously infected house, though disinfection had failed to prevent spread. A room cleaned weeks later by three men suggests lingering risk.

The marriage of Charles B. Goddard and Nan Louise Biddle occurred Thursday at 1 o'clock in the Presbyterian parsonage Albany with Rev. J. H. Kirkpatrick officiating. The ceremony was intimate attended by a few friends. The bride, daughter of Commissioner and Mrs. John F. Biddle of Alexander, is a schoolteacher who recently finished a four month term in Carthage township. Goddard, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Goddard of Bern township, works in the oil business at Beaumont Texas where he currently resides. The couple began their new life as Mr. and Mrs. Goddard immediately with plans for Mrs. Goddard to join him in Beaumont around mid February.

Labor Train Abandoned After Short Run From Athens
The Luhrig labor train from Athens to Luhrig was discontinued after three and a half months. Only about thirty-two passengers rode during the last trip, far short of the required one hundred to remain self supporting. Lack of housing for workers and families drove the decision, with thirty days notice discussed but the train to end immediately deemed preferable by Athens merchants.

Death of Daniel Dana. Utah-based attorney longtime Athens resident
John P. Dana of Salt Lake City received a telegram early in the week announcing the death of his uncle Daniel Dana. Born in 1824, he was a longtime Athens and McArthur attorney who moved to Utah thirty years ago. The death occurred Sunday with a funeral held Tuesday.

Seven Month Old Child Dies in Chauncey Pneumonia
The seven month old child of Mr and Mrs Edward Dougherty died Tuesday at the parents home in Chauncey from pneumonia. The remains were brought to Athens Wednesday and taken to Torch for interment.

Old Forty-Niner John Morrison Dies at 80
John Morrison aged 80 died suddenly at his Youba home after a fall two weeks earlier which caused a rib fracture and internal abscess. A notable local figure, he mined for gold in 1849 then returned to Ohio in 1857. He served as Youba postmaster when the present office was established. Funeral services were held at Coolville M E Church with interment there.

Carnegie funds Athens library to begin next spring
Plans for a new library in Athens advance as Carnegie contributes 30 000 with 10 000 from the state and 10 000 more from state funds. Architect Packard of Columbus will refine drawings and bidders will be sought soon. The fireproof building will house the university library with about 20 000 volumes and open next fall.
