Geauga county authorities in Ohio form posses to find two robbers who kidnapped 15 year old Anna Lanske from Montville Township, believed drugged and left in a ditch two miles from home. She was bound, placed in a car, and later recovered conscious but unable to describe the event clearly.
Joseph Serafino a 19 year old from Cleveland was to be questioned by state fire marshal official Hubert Maas about the Just Rite Dry Cleaning plant bombing at Perrysburg on January 5 and other vandalism in Toledo and Cleveland. He admitted aiding the Perrysburg bombing and named Harry Weiss as head of the racketeering group. Weiss denied involvement. Louis McGrady identified Weiss as a racketeer who attended a Toledo meeting demanding protection money.
Samuel Insull’s permit to stay in Greece is extended to January 1934. The Home Office advised the Foreign Office to allow a further five months, later expected to reach twelve, as he is not a criminal and does not affect Greek unemployment. Ex-Premier Venizelos’ cabinet formation signals support for his release.
The Senate Rules Committee resumed hearings today on charges against Judge Charles F. Schaber, named to the Public Utilities Commission, with expectation of a conclusion by tonight.

He earned $500 weekly performing backstage at a Broadway vaudeville house while recounting how Harry Gerguson fooled many into believing he was a czar’s cousin. Bond set at $2500.
Secretary of War Hurley appoints Major General Hugh A. Drum deputy chief of staff of the Army with Fort Hayes Ohio as his HQ succeeding Mosely whose four year term expires Mosely to replace Drum as chief of the Fifth Corps Area. transfer set for about February 22.
In the last half of 1932 more than 400,000 men and women applied for jobs at 13 state city employment offices in large Ohio cities. Of 410,809 applicants, 298,516 were men and 112,293 were women. 34,274 were placed, including 19,061 men and 15,223 women.
House Republican Leader Snell told President Hoover the Democratic led House would reject the government re organization plan. The statement came in Washington as the plan faced opposition from House Democrats.
Speaker Garner criticized Treasury Department refunds as overly liberal saying hundreds of millions could have been retained if the law was properly enforced. He cited excess profit tax credits abatements to large corporations and urged stricter collection of funds.
Gallipolis reports H. Mc Causland a 52 year old Pliny West Virginia farmer with a fractured skull after an auto struck a pole and overturned near Pliny Monday night. He is at Holzer Hospital resting comfortably with partial consciousness. His daughter Miss Charlotte Mc Causland was admitted to donate blood for a transfusion. Hospitalized Monday night were Mrs. Harley Devol of Middleport for minor operation and Mrs. A. T. Spencer of Point Pleasant for an operation.
Warren January 17. A special court disbarred Warren Thomas Arthur Levenberg and C H Woodworth and suspended Kenneth McNair four months. Barrett Brown was censured as decisions on last week's charges were read by Judges J P Barnes P L Wilkin and J C Olgevee.
A light quake was recorded in New Bedford area on January 17 with buildings shaken but no damage reported. Officials reported no injuries and a brief tremor across the section.
In Gary Indiana on January 17 a deranged man killed two people before police ended a five hour siege at a farm home in Ross. An armored car breached the doorway as officers fired, mortally wounding the suspect who lay in a second floor room beside a Virgin Mary picture.
A Chicago dispatch reports police recovered 22538.25 in securities and 800 in cash from a mailed loot in Minneapolis after an infernal machine scare. The package bore William Skidmore’s name and address and was delivered to him after the robbery of the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific mail room. Skidmore refused delivery and the package was investigated by Inspector Aldrich before opening to reveal securities and cash.
Four men robbed the American State Bank of more than two thousand dollars in NORTH JUDSON Indiana. They kidnapped Assistant Cashier Frank Wanek and used him as a shield during their escape. Townsfolk gathered but did not shoot, fearing Wanek’s safety. A posse was sent in pursuit.
Steubenville report: Stanley Mellion aged 26 was crushed when a coal car, uncoupled from a train, overturned after striking an open switch near Dillonvale. Komor Kulkwich, 28, was taken into custody as the death investigation began.
Manaos Brazil January 17 The Colombian fleet consisting of three gun boats and a transport moved from the middle Amazon toward the upper river to recapture the Leticia port from Peruvians. Peruvian officials had warned that moving on Leticia would trigger war. The voyage is estimated to take about ten days.
Veteran legislator William Martin proposes that 40 states secede from eight eastern states over alleged manipulation of Congress and wealth extraction. He singles out Maine New Hampshire Vermont Massachusetts New York Pennsylvania Rhode Island and New Jersey, urging North Dakota to join the secession and carry the Star Spangled Banner while the others keep the stripes. The plan cites financial strain from the New York Stock Exchange and Morgan to justify the split.
In Pomeroy Ohio on Tuesday an explosion from a coal stove destroyed Charles Keller’s general store in Tuppers Plains. The two story frame building on Route 7 and Alfred Road housed local school sessions on its second floor. Keller escaped unharmed but volunteers could not stop the fire, which consumed the largest village business and spared nearby structures.

Sabina Ohio report states three robbers in the First National Bank holdup Monday are being hunted across Southwestern Ohio. They escaped with three dollars and some currency. Local authorities describe the crime as a bold daytime theft and ongoing manhunt.
The case involved a break in at Roberts filling station and Danford hardware in Trimble. A large double speaker radio was seized after Albert Binderbasin allegedly carried it half a mile home, with officers noting no vehicle was used and the radio recovered during the investigation.
Toledo public school teachers and other board employees will receive pay for the last half of December and the first half of January after the Toledo Board of Education voted to borrow $500,000 to cover overdue salaries through January 15. Columbus January 17 Representative W T Roberts Democrat of Bridgeport was delegated by Speaker Frank Cave Mansfield to serve on the Mines Committee of the Ohio House, replacing Republican David E Crowe of Ironton. Roberts authored a bill to require purchase of Ohio coal in institutions supported wholly or in part by public funds.
