Alonzo Davis, a rural mail carrier from Alvany to Harrison ville, was arrested on charges of robbing the mails. He appeared before United States Commissioner Leyner in Marietta last week and was bound over to await further proceedings in the sum of $1,000. Davis offered no immediate defense and remains in custody.
Getlie T Minrrisan died on Wednesday of last week in Tangier of Me laid Mre. The burial occurred at Tharelar in the old cemetery.

Mrs Rebecca Barch widow of G W Barch died Sunday at Jensy Finsterawld's Mill Street home from a complication of diseases aged about years. Funeral services were to be announced with Clarx's Chapel and Tey Cheadie of Albany to officiate. interment to follow.

Thomas and Edward Johnson transfer all their property to the Pittsburg Coal Company in a $1 250000 deal. Eight mines and four company stores pass under new management, with 41500 acres of coal lands in Athens and Hocking counties and lands in Trimble township. The Johnson brothers rise from miners to major independent coal operators, retaining continued management of the transferred properties.
Large tracts of coal lands in Dover township are being purchased by C L Poston. The coal beneath the surface is the primary target. Purchases cover several thousand acres east of Sunny Creek and stretch from Chauncey to Millfield. Much land had been optioned years earlier.
The Farmers Institute plans an assembly in the Athens court room with an excellent program prepared. Attendance is welcomed and expected to be significant, featuring speakers and safety topics.
The presbyterian church will hold a rummage sale and auction with Hibbard and Weldum furniture on Friday and Saturday, January 2 and 3. A freewill donation will be appreciated.
