Hocking River Reaches New High as Rain Aids Rise
The Hocking River climbed to 14.42 feet this morning, the highest level this year after recent rain and snow. Athens saw a high of 56 degrees yesterday and a low of 31 last night, with a late morning temperature at 34. In Middletown a man killed a woman and then himself, Sheriff notes. A separate Columbus fire killed Robert King and his wife Anna in a home explosion caused by a kerosene can.

Girl-Molester Believed To Be Still at Large
Athens police believe another man besides one in custody may have assaulted near Ohio University campus. The man taken into custody was identified by several girls as the molester, though some disagreed. Police have one suspect in mind and are watching him. No reports of girls grabbed. two reports of indecent exposure and five to six other frightened incidents. The 56-year-old man’s name was in records but not published due to lack of charges and mental health questions. He was examined, court papers prepared, and a hospital transfer arranged with his brother's help.

Roberts Halts Local Salvation Army Fund Drive
L W Roberts chairman of the Salvation Army advisory board in Athens halted further solicitations for the maintenance fund after discovering indiscriminate appeal letters sent in the county under his name. He noted the drive had exceeded its quota by about 700 in cash and pledges and will be used to cover future needs as the Red Cross campaign approaches. Mrs. Amy Dyson aged 88 died at her Mount Clemens home after long illness. She was widow of David Dyson and former Athens shoe store owner.
