Athens Man Draws Fine Jail For DWI
Ronald E. Allerton, 30, of 120 N Lancaster St, pled guilty to driving while intoxicated after a two car crash at Court and Carpenter Streets. He was fined 125 dollars plus costs, sentenced to three days in jail, and received a 180 day license suspension. Bechschneider, 23, of 3614 First St, was the other driver.

Examination For New Chief Seen In January
An examination for a successor to Police Chief Joseph B. Grogan may be given in early January. John Buck of the civil service commission said commissioners are preparing a written test patterned after a state commission list. Three men Capt Fred James Sgt Charles Cochran and Sgt Clyde Beasley Jr are eligible for the test. Grogan’s resignation becomes effective Jan 21 and a two week notice must be posted before testing. Mayor Raymond Sheppard will select the appointee from the final SCORES. Tests for additional patrolmen and firemen will be given soon as the city hires more personnel next year.
