Harley Nice aged 61 died Monday morning at his Athens Jerseyville home after two years of illness. He was active in the furnace repair business. Widow Lila Bur waves, daughter Stella Bibiana, and brother Hen TM Route 31 were among survivors. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. service to be held at a time to be announced.

Greenwich Connecticut Mrs Morton Downey former Barbara Bennett says nine children would be a nice size family and her six week old fourth baby pleases her. She notes she quit acting and dancing to have babies and enjoys watching them grow. She says she sees Joan and Constance Bennett on screen with no envy.
Mrs. Effie Woodworth Henry widow of H Dow Henry aged 67 died at the family home 68 College Street after an extended illness. Funeral at 1 PM Wednesday at the home conducted by Dr A Y Wilcox with burial in Union Street Cemetery. She was daughter of the late Chester Woodworth of Millfield and mother of four daughters including Mrs Virgene Elliott and Mrs Lucille Finsterwald. The Henries settled in Athens in 1891 and built prominence in business and civic life including the Athens Lumber Co and the Athens National Bank where Henry served as president at death.
Clem Woodruff of this city suffered serious injuries and Howard Green the car owner had cuts and bruises when the auto left Route 31 at Wolfe's Basin about 2 pm Saturday. The vehicle plunged down a 10 foot embankment and rested 100 feet from the highway. Woodruff received x rays showing no fracture but torn ligaments. They were returning from Nelsonville in a car driven by Green which was nearly demolished.
Joe Prall age 75 former Pomeroy resident died at Mercersville Sunday his body to be brought to Ewing Funeral Home for services. He survived by brother Dana of Texas and sister Annie Mott of Columbus. Crippled after a youth accident he later joined the Salvation Army after leaving Pomeroy. Funeral services have not been completed.
President Roosevelt called his chief relief and financial advisers to a budget conference in Washington to discuss emergency outlays for the next fiscal year. Participants included Hopkins Ickes Morgenthau Tugwell Bell and Walker as they weigh relief needs and the future of the four billion dollar Works Progress Administration program amid a mounting deficit.
Felix Wider, 26, of Columbus, recovering from shotgun wounds, walks from Sheltering Arms Hospital to Logan with Hocking County authorities. He is suspected in a break in at Robinson Bros. service station, Murray City, and may face charges while another suspect, Frank Kline of Columbus, is jailed. Police link both to a gang stealing slot machines.

In Hamilton James Van Lieu aged 87 fatally shot his father Edward in bed with a shotgun and then killed himself. Coroner Edward Cook said the son had been ill mentally and fled the house after the shooting as the wife sought help.
Springfield notes the death of John S Merrill aged 72 after a week long illness. Merrill served as president of the Associated Credit Bureaus of Ohio and led the Springfield Retail Credit Bureau Inc. The obituary records his prominent role in local credit reporting.
Community groups across multiple towns collect toys and donations for Christmas aid. Eagles Toy Shop in Athens led by Mrs. Eugene Shafer seeks hundreds of toys. Salvation Army requests money and food. local clubs and scouts organize gifts, stockings, and fundraisers to support needy families.

Former Scout Thurman O'Harrow rescued a large tan and white dog trapped in a deep rock crevice northeast of Nelsonville. He went with his father, used a rope from the City Light Department, and pulled the dog to safety. The animal is recovering after the rescue.

POMEROY Staff Special reports five arrests made in town over the week end. Hustling charges include infostration on Rutland and reckless driving on Main Street. Deputies Roush and Young released Frank Mills on bond after a four day sentence on the DON support charge.
Dr. Ben McElroy of Ohio Wesleyan University helped celebrate the 99th birthday of his aunt Mrs. Rachel McElroy of Racine in Gallia County. Four generations attended the event. She has been a Methodist Episcopal Church member for 85 years. Her daughter Mrs. Kate McElroy Wolfe of Racine and brother-in-law Capt. J. C. McElroy, once portmaster, were noted in attendance.
Nelsonville resident Don Wright was arrested Sunday by Nelsonville Police Chief George Bateman and jailed in Hecking County. He faces arraignment before Magistrate S. B. Whitehart for allegedly stealing county property, specifically clothing issued to him as a prisoner at the county jail.
Dana Stobart, 59, died at 3 40 Monday morning at his Kerrs Run home after a long illness hastened by a recent stroke. He is survived by his wife and several children. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Federal agents joined New York City police in a search for Caleb J. Milne an actor from an old Philadelphia family after a ransom note postmarked Poughkeepsie NY claimed he was abducted. His disappearance came to light when his 18 year old brother Frederic reported he left a note saying he went with a Doctor Green of Glacie Square.
Funeral services were held for Mrs Kate Jay, age 61, at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Her body was taken from Spencer to Miles Cemetery for interment.
