Gallipolis reports the Steamer Creighton while passing downstream struck the new Eureka Dam pier on the Ohio River this morning. Three barges loaded with coal sank, others were loosened and floated downstream as the Creighton pursued them. The new pier sustained light damage.
North East Maryland reports twin boys born Friday the thirteenth to Mrs George T Culley age 36, increasing the total number of children she has given birth to.
Santa Claus will depart Monday for a trip to Athens for a youth visit on Thursday December 19. He will bring helpers 25 Paul Bunyan characters, four reindeer and five ponies for a Court Street parade at 6 30 p m and a 9 p m farewell in Court Street. The City Hall show is set for 2 p m with local children to discuss conduct and Christmas morning expectations.
Gallipolis reports the body of John V. Soles eight seven, former Alice resident, brought from Mishawaka Indiana where he died of pneumonia at his daughter Mrs Ella Moore’s home. Funeral by Rev George Eagen this afternoon with burial in Franklin Cemetery. Surviving children include Mrs Moore Albert Soles of Buchtel Artie of Lancaster Elsie of Mt. Vernon Mrs Cecil Hartsock of Vinton and Mrs Holcomb wife of Rev Carey Holcomb of Gallipolis.
Margaret Wider, seven months married to Felix Wider, lies in Sheltering Arms Hospital after he was shot amid an alleged filling station robbery in Columbus. She plans to stay by him, saying she knew him well enough to marry him and would not abandon him, while they had shopped for a child and planned Christmas gifts.
