Ohio Lawmaker Seeks Tax Raising Limit by Vote of the People
Rep Don S Maddux introduced a measure to amend the Ohio Constitution restricting the General Assembly from raising sales or income taxes by more than a half percent within any 10-year period without a public referendum. An emergency exception up to 1.5 percent exists with three-fourths support in both houses. Maddux argues the plan returns taxpayer power while preserving legislative authority in other areas.
