Burton Found Guilty of Manslaughter in Coolville Shooting
The jury spent over five hours deliberating before returning a verdict of manslaughter against John Burton in the shooting of Horace Dewey at Coolville on August 10. Testimony detailed a confrontation after Dewey accused Burton of lies, leading to Burton firing two shots as Dewey advanced with a knife. Dewey died from wounds to the chest and shoulder. The trial drew a large eastern county crowd, and Burton faces sentencing next week.
