Train No 14 Delayed By Track Issue Near Luhrig
Passenger train No 14 on the B&O line was delayed several hours east of Luhrig when its engine left the track shortly before reaching Athens. The incident caused slight damages with no injuries reported. Earlier, the same morning the train struck a cow near the depot, derailing the engine but the coaches stayed on the rails, avoiding a worse crash. The cow belonged to Oliver Weethee, of Luhrig.

Death of John McAfee in Washtenaw Township
John McAfee died suddenly Monday morning at his home in Abenodtr township at age forty eight. His car was in a repair shop ten days earlier. He leaves a wife and several children. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the C. P. B. Church in Hebbardsville with interment in the local cemetery.

Patterson Injured in Mine Collision at Black Diamond
Kay Patterson a 21 year old diver in the Black Diamond mine at Lathrop was seriously injured when his coal mine switch train collided with another car in charge of Charles Sophus. He was trapped in the wreckage and internal injuries were feared though no bones were broken. A physician was summoned as the accident occurred this afternoon and Patterson’s condition remained serious hours later.

Rear-End Collision Injures Water Train Crew in Jacksonville
Conductor Bweeney and Brakeman Steed of the water train were badly injured when their train was rear ended by freight on the main track. The caboose was smashed and the accident was described as a near miracle for their survival. Injured men were taken to Gloucester for treatment and are expected to recover.
