Mine Fire at Premp House Bettwoas Kills Horses

A mine disaster at Premp House near Bettuas caused a devastating blaze that swept timber, hoisting shaft, and tipple. Thirty eight horses perished, hundreds were evacuated, and workers escaped with narrow calls. The blaze started from a pump house fire and spread rapidly, destroying machinery and threatening workers clustered near the shaft. The incident, one of the worst in three months, disrupted operations and left many families facing hardship.

Nelsonville Brick and Tire Factory Destroyed by Fire

A major fire gutted the Nelsonville Brick and Tile Factory on Saturday morning. The plant, housed north of the city, produced paving bricks and clay products and employed nearly a hundred workers, all of whom face idle time as rebuilding plans are considered after the loss. The insured facility, operated by a Nelsonville stock company, may rebuild but would be unavailable until mid next summer.
