Violations reported at expense of merchants in Pomeroy
In Pomeroy a man posing as a law violator reporter is accused of exploiting the system that pays half the fine to informants. He reportedly exposed merchants in Pomeroy and Middleport. John Cowry, targeted for arrest, paid a $50 fine plus costs. The scheme drew sheriff’s admonition that such acts won’t be tolerated. Also noted is a local marriage in Marietta between a Collins daughter and a Martin son, with the couple planning to reside in Pomeroy.
