Ohio coal operators meeting in Columbus decide to drop the Jacksonville contract and reopen idle mines at a lower scale. About 30,000 idle miners would be allowed to return to work under a new pay plan of five dollars a day, while some nearby mines may stay on the Jacksonville terms. A five-member committee was appointed to draft the new scale for a second meeting.

New York August 24 Rudolph Valentino earned several million during his life but the extent of his fortune is uncertain. Producer Joseph Schenck said Valentino likely had little cash beyond possible film interests. Some estimate an estate of about 750000 dollars plus personal belongings, with film royalties hard to value. He held 200000 dollars in life insurance with United Artists and could have earned two to three million if he had lived. He owned a large art and antique collection of uncertain value. The deathbed contract provided 200000 dollars cash per film and a quarter of gross income.
A Brontosaurus skeleton unearthed on Friend Butte farm in Licking County is described as a death duel with a Mastodon. Scientists estimate the Brontosaurus could reach 60 to 70 feet, with a 27 inch leg unearthed. J R Fitzgibbon and M J Reese bought the Mastodon and dinosaur remains. full excavation expected to take 18 months.

Sarah Faulkner 20 daughter of Mr and Mrs James Faulkner of Fourth street Middleport was instantly killed in a motor accident on the Chester road near the old bridge at eight this morning. She rode with Vis Young of Dark Hollow. their Ford roadster plunged over a 12 foot embankment on the Cemetery road. Coroner Ewing and Joe Bailey reached the scene.
