Refusal of Judge A P Miller and L Crary Davis to give a letter to Hedricks father brother and uncle removes any chance of postponing or stopping the execution. Hedrick will be electrocuted with John Shorty Bryant and Richard Rhodes in the first triple execution at the Ohio penitentiary. The relatives wanted the letter to place before the governor in an effort to save the condemned man.
Stark county grand jury hearing on the Don R. Mellett case receives added precautions with bribe reports sought. Court house guards and restricted entry aim to curb outside influence while witnesses like Florence Mellett and Coroner McQuate testify.

Bellefonte Pa August 26 United States army hospital airplane dispatched from Washington to transport Lieut Cyrus Bettis an injured flier to Walter Reed hospital arrived this morning. Bettis suffered a broken leg a broken jaw and severe lacerations of the head and body and was resting easily today.
An explosion at 2 p.m. at Central Run No. 1 mine of the Clearfield Bituminous Coal Co. in Clumber, near Johnstown, trapped between sixty and seventy miners. Rescue teams from Johnstown, Heilwood and nearby centers rushed to the scene. fatalities unknown.
