Alexander Local Schools touts the lowest Local Tax Effort in Athens County as residents face a November 8 ballot on a 1.5 percent earned income tax levy. Supt. Lindy Douglas and Treasurer Aaron Schirm warn state funding has been flat since 2008, causing annual deficits that could reach about 2 million by 2020 without new revenue. If approved, the levy would generate roughly 2.56 million annually after two years, keeping the district in the black.
