Flats Increase as Drivers Step on It
Five arrests and one minor accident were reported by state highway patrolmen over the weekend as traffic rose slightly and speeds increased. A two day victory holiday sent traffic about 10 percent higher than on normal week days, while ration free gasoline weekends saw about five percent more traffic. More flats occurred from higher speeds causing old tires to fail. A minor collision occurred between a pickup driven by James R. Savage and a car driven by James A. Kaiser on the township road near Routes 33 and 150 Alternate. Three drivers were arrested on Route 7 near Gallipolis with fines and next week appearances set for Reeves Elliott, Lester Martin, and Merrill Briggs. James Nelson Campbell was fined on Route 33 for unsafe operation. Ray Matheny and Herbert Blackford were fined for unsafe operation on Route 33 near Nelsonville.
