Former Athens man struck by fast train near Chillicothe
Charles S. Lawson, once a compositor in Athens, was hit by a B. & C. S. W. train west of Chillicothe after sleeping on the tracks. He suffered a six inch head gash, stayed unconscious briefly, and recovered. later arrested in Springfield for allegedly stealing Ed. Thomas’s gold watch. Lawson had left Athens Thursday morning for Chillicothe and was eventually brought to Chillicothe.

Accidental Shooting In Lancaster Street Home
Miss Nellie Pickering was accidentally shot in the left leg by her father Theodore Pickering Monday night at their Lancaster street home. The pistol was an old 32 caliber revolver miscounted as a five shooter. an extra cartridge exploded while cleaning, causing a non serious injury. Miss Pickering, a popular local graduate now attending college, is reportedly in no serious danger.

Railroad Tie Cutter Hurt In Foot Injury Near Athens
Raymond Mite, 24, serving in the Spanish American war, was cutting railroad ties on Peter Walsh’s farm two miles south of town when an ax glancing struck his left foot. Four toes were cut through, the wound starting at the little toe and ending near the midfoot. He was rushed to Athens and treated by Alderman & Biddle.

Carpenter Falls Sixteen Feet From Scaffold in Union Street Build
Samuel Phillips aged sixty, a carpenter, fell sixteen feet from a scaffold at Wall Davis' brick building on Union Street. He struck boards and stones, injuring his collar bone and head lacerations, was unconscious, treated by Drs. Alderman and Birdle, then taken home to recover. Phillips has long worked as a bridge carpenter and foreman for B&O S-1W.

Alley work opens from State to Lancaster past old cemetery
Work on an alley along the eastern boundary of the old cemetery began last week and should finish soon. At the southeast corner four graves were moved to allow required width. Remarkably little debris was found. One grave held a two year old with five double teeth intact. A small cloth fragment and walnut casket piece were recovered, indicating a body once lay there. The child died eighty eight years ago, others forty nine, forty nine, and forty two years prior.

In Amos Nelson's saloon on Pronecy street August 14 a quarrel between Tom Kelly and Amos Nelson led to a chaotic fight. James Carry intervened and was shot in the forehead by Nelson with a 32 caliber revolver. The bullet lodged near the skull but did not fracture it. Carry walked to Nelsonville where a physician removed it. Kelly suffered severe injuries from the assault and was left insensible.
