Herbert Woolum of Waterloo Lawrence County is near death at Holzer Hospital after shotgun wounds to the abdomen. He was shot near his home at five this morning as Clifford Rogers is questioned by Lawrence County officers.

A $150,000 ransom fund was reportedly withdrawn from a London bank by Hugh Labatt, brother of the kidnapped brewer John Labatt, as Toronto police and Canadian authorities hunt a gang. Relatives fear double danger due to Labatt’s heart ailment while lawmen push for a breakthrough before the note’s 24 hour deadline.
The American Federation of Labor Executive Council will intercede over reports that union workers on strike in Ohio onion fields and a Los Angeles hosiery mill are facing oppression. The council seeks state inquiries in Ohio, federal mediation, and possible federal statute reviews by the Justice Department.
The National Steel Labor Board heard a petition from Canonsburg Lodge of the Amalgamated Association of Iron Steel and Tin Workers seeking an election at Standard Tin Plate Company mills in Canonsburg. In Gallia County at Morgan Center last night Constable Cluster Russell, 32, fatally shot Joe Barrett, 35, after Barrett arrived at the Russell home drunk and demanding water. Russell and witnesses say Barrett refused warnings and entered the yard. Barrett was shot once in the chest and died.
E H Rardin 55 died Tuesday afternoon at his sister Nora Mansfield’s home 198 Morris Avenue after a two year illness. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 30 PM at Central Avenue M E Church with burial in West Union Street Cemetery. He was born near Athens and after graduating Athens High School and Ohio University worked with Bardin Brothers Lumber, later in Los Angeles and Lancaster before returning to Athens with the Rardin Company and recently as district manager of the Home Owners Loan Corporation until its office closed. He leaves two children Joe and Betty and five surviving siblings.
Washington August 15 executives forecast new appointments to three key government posts after two resignations. Eugene R Black governor of the Federal Reserve Board is expected to resign soon. Former Ohio governor James M Cox is among those mentioned for the Fed post.
The railroads failed to obtain a temporary restraining order in DC Supreme Court to block the railroad retirement board from starting operation of the pension law. Justice Proctor noted that the board only seeks minimal advance funds to begin administrative work and ruled there was no imminent danger of irreparable harm.
Four year old Ruth May Seymour of Washington D C remains in serious condition after an accidental shooting in Columbus. The child found a small rifle her mother had left on a chair and a pellet lodged in her head.
A. Vic Donahey won the Democratic nomination for Ohio governor joining Kent born Martin L. Davey while Clarence J. Brown led the Republican bid. Senate pressure loomed over White’s nomination as Bulkley Cox opposed the move.
American swimmers turned over on their backs last night and set a world record while winning three of six finals. The report notes intense heat and many mosquitos as spectators and athletes anticipate the Olympic Games.

Ronnie Dailey eight on the elf daughter of Mr and Mrs R G Dailey of Hooper Street died at noon today of whooping cough funeral at 6 pm Thursday at West State Street Cemetery. Besides the parents the child leaves three brothers and two sisters.
Berlin reports that Reich President Hindenburg endorses Hitler's political ascent in a May 11 signed will published today after delivery to Hitler by Franz von Papen. Martin L. Davey leads the Democratic gubernatorial field while Brown tops the Republican vote with 330 081. Fess wins the GOP Senate nomination by about 190 000. Donahey leads the Democratic Senate tally, and Davey leads in Democratic governor precincts as party candidates vie for at large seats.
In MT Gilead at Bd Aug Don ald Campbell of Columbus is reported by his physician to have talked incessantly for a week except for six hours after a hypodermic injection. The illness described as a form of encephalitis follows a fall and he remains under care at his parents home in Edison Morrow County four miles west of here.
Berlin reports Hermann Wilhelm Goering premier of Prussia is recovering in Berchtesgaden after injuries from an automobile wreck. He sustained injuries August 15 and is described as recuperating today.
