Governor Davey plans to leave for Washington to present to President Roosevelt a request for 15 to 20 million dollars in federal public works funds for a state welfare building program. He says he will announce his decision on the congress at large vacancy before departure and has conferred with the President by telephone. The President reportedly welcomed the welfare plan and noted a similar issue faced in New York.
In Copenhagen Countess Barbara Sutton Haughwitz Reventlow and her husband escaped unharmed after a car accident. The countess is heiress to the Woolworth millions, while her former husband Prince Alexis Molivant was killed in a separate Spain crash on August 1.

Skinner says political pressure affected the department and notes he was asked to hand over control for Davey appointments amid Marietta College presidency vacancy.
Dr. Skinner, ex superintendent of Athens and Marietta schools and ex president of Wilmington College, attended Ohio University. Fifty Southern Ohio educators urged Governor Davey to retain Skinner or name J. W. Fichter as director amid possible department reorganization. Bowsher led schools in Waynesfield Waverly Wauseon and Ashland and held roles in teaching associations and civic clubs.
Columbus faced a taxi service halt as about 200 cabs were idle after a drivers union strike. The walkout followed the dismissal of several drivers by one firm, and insurers cancelled coverage prompting owners to pull cabs off the streets.

In Greenfield a four week old infant of Mr and Mrs James Cross remained asleep after a car driven by Mrs Cross rolled down an embankment and half submerged in Paint Creek. The parents rescued the infant from the water as the car drifted into the stream.
Mansfield report says Chester Panetta, age W, was fined $100 and given a one day jail term after being found to obtain $7 relief for rent while employed. Prosecutor G W Marriott said Panetta had $15 weekly earnings. Judge R E Hutchison suspended all but $25 of the fine if Panetta repaid $120 received over ten months.

Marion police report a holdup at a beauty parlor where two well dressed men, one armed with a revolver, demanded the cash drawer. After learning only 10 cents remained the pair gave the clerk a half dollar and fled uptown. Mary Court, 21, described as attractive, said the incident happened this morning amid recent robberies in the area.
The Senate Finance Committee proposed a tax bill closer to President Roosevelt's view, keeping most rates but adding higher surtaxes on income over 1 million dollars and broader corporate taxes. It would raise about 250 million dollars, less than the House plan, with debate to begin in the Senate next week amid cross party criticism.
