The Citizens Telephone Co of Guysville is building a line to connect with Central Union at Athens and faces farmers’ opposition. Right of way was refused by Lewis Finsterwald near Guysville, a landowner near Cannanville, and Elmer Halbirt on Wickham farm. Finsterwald allegedly used a shotgun to halt work. Sheriff Murphy sent two deputies. Poles were placed on Wickham land but removed after Halbirt, and similar poles were laid on the company farm but remain undisturbed. Death of George Link the state hospital groundskeeper
George Link, a landscape gardener at the state hospital, died at his home Monday afternoon at age 71. Born in Germany on November 25, 1832, he came to America about 40 years ago and spent 82 years caring for the hospital grounds. He is survived by three sons Henry Link of Athens E J Link of Chicago Otto Link of Marietta and a daughter Mrs Harry Slayback of Athens. The mother died last January. Funeral services were held at 9 a m yesterday at the Catholic church Rev Father Mattingly officiating with interment in the Catholic cemetery.
