In Canada a sweeping Liberal victory gives Louis St Laurent a House majority near the 1949 peak. The Liberals tally 171 seats to 50 for Conservatives 23 for CCF 15 for Social Credit with six others. St Laurent calls the result a confident mandate and runs on performance over promises.
Washington reports that the corn crop may join wheat and cotton as a surplus issue for the government. A general crop report due today will show if the 1954 corn harvest surpasses 3.4 billion bushels, triggering potential control measures. A Mansfield woman, 26, is in custody after she shot 33 year old Emma Lee Campbell while aboard a Mansfield city bus. Both women were en route to work before 7 am when Campbell was ordered off the vehicle on W First Street. Campbell died an hour later from a 38 caliber revolver wound.

Circleville resident Orlando Poling aged sixteen drowned in the Scioto River after losing his footing while wading on Monday night. The incident occurred in Circleville, Ohio, as authorities investigated the drowning.
In Portsmouth Ohio Robert Brady aged 13 drowned in the Ohio River near his Sciotoville home on Monday while fishing. Local authorities reported the accident and began standard rescue and investigation procedures.
