Tragic arsenic death of Ada Leggett in Lancaster
Ada Leggett, 23, formerly Ada Mann, daughter of Mr and Mrs Alex Leggett of Willow Creek, Canaan township, died after a large dose of arsenic taken Thursday night in Lancaster. Despondent over a relationship with Bert Hensley, she swalloed poison, suffered ten hours of agony, and died Friday morning. Remains were sent to Athens and interred at Clarks Chapel. burial followed viewing at her parents’ home.

Samuel Bliss, 65, a well known Little Hocking merchant and Civil War veteran, was instantly killed Monday evening when struck by eastbound train No 4 of the B and O W near a siding while he walked to milk his cows. City Council Buys Lawrence Property In Athens
The Athens city council adjourned meeting approved purchasing part of the W B Lawrence lot on Washington Street for 2200 dollars. The front 30 by 60 feet remains with Lawrence while the rear 80 by 60 feet will house a fire department. An alley ten feet wide will connect the fire house to the street. The council also accepted the W R Phillips addition on Lancaster Street 1458 to 1468. Street salary adjustments raise McCormick to 2 dollars a day for ten months and 1.50 for two months while he focuses on sewer work. Finsterwald was appointed to street work and repairs with no extra pay yet set.
