The National Guard engineer corps of Cleveland arrived Friday to camp near Armitage and Beaumont. Major J R McQuigg leads about 240 men through August 23, repairing roads building shelter trenches and possibly pontoon bridges over the Hocking river. A runaway horse caused a minor injury to Major McQuigg before a calmer mount was found.

After two weeks closed the Christian church will reopen next Sunday. The building has been varnished carpeted oiled and cleaned. A new drugger is in the lecture room. The Ladies Aid society is praised for their work. Morning worship will be with the Disciples and a union service will be held at night in the Presbyterian church.

Teachers Institute Opens With 300 Attendees in Athens
Monday morning 300 teachers from across the country arrived in Athens for a week of study to improve teaching methods for the coming school year. Supt Pierpont and professors Mills Mitchell Boughton lead daily sessions while the Ohio Teachers Reading Circle graduation drew over 150 students. Dr Beal, health tour gone well, returned from Oklahoma and the World’s Fair visit.
