Balloon pilot in Texas crash had alcohol history says former girlfriend
Wendy Barth told AP that Alfred Skip Nichols, 49, a recovering alcoholic with DWI convictions, had been sober for years and did not fly while intoxicated. Authorities say his Heart of Texas Hot Air Balloon Rides craft hit power lines near Lockhart, killing 16. NTSB probes focus on pilot licensing and prior 2014 Kyle incident. BBB previously warned about doing business with Nichols.
