Civil War veteran William Carskadden died Thursday at his Congress street home after a prolonged bronchial illness at age 76. He lived in Athens township, Mechanicsburg, and later near Pleasantosmi before moving to Congress street with his son E C Carskadden. Born in Belmont County, he moved to Athens County at age 12 and served over three years in Company B, 1ath O. VLI. Funeral services were held in Pleasanton under G A R auspices, with pallbearers listed, and he leaves four children: E C Carskadden, DB C Carskadden, Ire Carskadden of Athens, and Mrs Laura Gleason of Cheney, Washington.

Remarkable Athens Woman Dies at 104 in West Virginia Heritage
Nancy Boyers Ayres, aged 104, longtime West Virginia native and Athens resident, died at her son Charles Ayres home on Race Street after a gradual decline. She lived through three centuries and left 38 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren, with eight children from eight pregnancies. Funeral services were held Friday, Rev. T.L. Policeman Burdetee swore Woodruff arrested Tuesday evening on pocket-picking near the B and O depot. Victim identified about eight dollars taken.
