The supreme court will hear the full report on the condition of the Athens Trust and Banking Company receivership. Col. Thomas F. Green, one of the receivers, will read the report in open court to a large audience.
At a recent prayer meeting and conference the New Baptist Church members favored the Lanier lot on Childs as the location for the new church. The decision reflects the consensus of the assembled congregation.
Manager Ed P. Stone of the Majestic theater was injured yesterday around nine when a stage safe used as prop in the Jesse James scene slipped while being moved. The small safe pinned him to the wall and stairs, injuring his fingers and back. extent unclear until morning.
The city board of education will meet at 4 pm to conduct routine business and likely fill the vacant seat left by Frank Anderson who resigned to join Riverside faculty. Gailard has handled his classes and Creekmore the athletic direction in the interim.
Business men and farmers are invited to view a drilling machine demonstration today at 10 o clock in the morning and 4 o clock in the afternoon on the new courthouse square. The notice also advertises fresh snap beans tender okra and a turnip salad with green tops from Arnold and Abmey.
On a Walton county plantation near High Shoals Tom Hixon a Black man was shot and killed by Cleve Thompson another Black man after a quarrel over Hixon s wife Thompson fled and is being sought by officials. The confrontation left Hixon s husband dead.
Clarke county grand jury resumes session after a short adjournment and likely will complete its work today. It is expected to submit general presentments to the court this afternoon.
Citizens urged to collect trash leaves and debris now. Sanitary department plans a major city cleanup with civic groups and businesses coordinating. Officer Harbin requests all waste ready for Wednesday collection to ease wagon routes.
The Lamonte Merry Makers opened at the Majestic with a 4 15 matinee and strong showings last night. A ten person company including seven pretty girls drew good houses considering the weather, with songs and dancing and blackface stunts entertaining fully. The Banker's Frolic was the yesterday bill, with full daily program changes. Today features The Modern Minstrelsy and tomorrow another new production.
Athens residents and county officials will attend a demonstration of the new patent portable drill perfected by Mr. R. R. Jones. Contractors and farmers using dynamite for subsoil breaking may welcome this invention. Demonstration on the courthouse site by Messrs. Gillen and Jones. Turnips with green tops offered by Arnold & Abney at 10c per large bunch.
Sunday morning Judge J F Foster a longtime Clarke county official and former city councilman suffered a cerebral rupture with right side paralysis. He remained conscious and could speak only faintly though doctors said the stroke is alarming but not serious and he is expected to recover in reasonable time.
The cases against J. W. Griffin president R. H. McCrary cashier and H. L. McCrary director of Ath ens Trust and Banking Company were continued by agreement of attorneys and the judge. The solicitor general urged no further delay beyond December. All defendants remain out on bond.
Col M G Michael of Denver will attend the Jewish Consumptives Relief Society eighth annual meeting in New York November 10 and 11 as a director of the national organization. The society aids consumptive patients and its home office is in Denver. The meeting will discuss society affairs and work.
The case against Ford Smith, a white man, charged with assault to murder, was continued due to the defendant’s illness. Smith, residing in Madison County, has been out on bond since arrest, with his attorney stating he may appear for trial today.

A meeting of the Southern Poultry association at Athens city hall outlined December 3 4 and 5 as show dates. Col M S Snelling and Prof L L Jones were replaced on the executive and Sec roles by J F Rhodes J H Dorsey with Mrs E K Lumpkin and Dr T E Jago added to the committee and staff. Rhodes called a 6 pm meeting to organize plans and rush premium lists. The group expects strong participation from local fanciers and out-of-town entries with weekly meetings through show day.
Willie Sims and Lindsey Moon, both Black, are jailed in Clarke county on arson charges after confessing to burning Dr. Deadwyler’s Carlton barn in Madison County. They implicate William David, a white man of prominent ties, who is jailed on bond set at 7500 dollars. he denies involvement. The two suspects, arrested near Carlton, arrived in Athens and tell similar tales of David directing the act while one entered the loft to ignite hay. The barn suffered extensive loss valued over 2000 dollars in provender and stock.
The murder case of the state against Lon Jones was continued to the April term after a key Baltimore based witness refused to travel to Athens without advance county funds for railroad fare. Jones, a white man, is charged with shooting into a house where a colored man sat by his fire in Barberville. The county will pay travel expenses, but the witness demanded advance payment. The solicitor was informed late Sunday night.
Hon. William Eberhart, longtime county resident and mayor of Cornelia, leads efforts to develop the fruit industry in Habersham and surrounding areas. He grows Kerrards, Choice, Arkansaw Mammoth blacks, Wine Sap, Improved Shockley and Winter Queen apples, with a rising regional market and expectations of higher land values as apple and peach cultivation expands.

Athens hosts the Georgia division of the Daughters of the Confederacy October 29 to November 1. Laura Rutherford chapter reports 101 homes offered with 50 more promised with partial certainty and 201 delegates named to attend. Some chapters will not attend and 27 are unresponsive. A Thursday meeting at Mrs. Welch’s aims to secure more hosts as many visitors are expected during convention week.
Fred Martin, a young Black man, appeared before the mayor on a drunk and disorderly charge after being found intoxicated near a chapter house. He admitted carrying a pistol and a pint of liquor, was fined for the drunken conduct, and bound over to the state court for concealed weapon possession. Several other Black individuals were fined for disorderly behavior as a group faced an unlawful assembly and bones games.
In the superior court yesterday the case against R. G. Peek was not pressed upon payment of cost. The cases against June Hardeman and Lonnie Gunnels charged with being drunk on the public highway were likewise not pressed on payment of costs. A verdict was rendered in Baugh vs. Escoe. A verdict was granted in Nash vs. Nash divorce. Voyles vs. Pickett was settled.
Representative elect Mr. J. F. Rhodes, one of Clarke county’s chosen representatives for the next general assembly, has returned from Macon where he attended Doposoc events and discussions with fellow electees.
Governor Joseph M Brown approved the Augusta court martial verdicts acquitting Captain Thad C Jowitt and eight others in the shooting deaths of three Augusta businessmen. The orders restore the officers to duty and lift martial law as troops withdraw after civil authorities regain control. The release cites obedience to orders and maintenance of law and order.
The Hilliard and Burch cases in the superior court were not heard yesterday due to illness among key participants. They will be called again at the opening of court this morning.
Local coal products representative W. F. Dobbs returned to Macon from the Georgia state fair in Central City last week. His educative exhibit of coal products attracted thousands and drew praise for its reveal in the exhibit halls.
