Best Horse and Buggy Stolen From Oconee Street Lot
In broad daylight a large dark bay mule and a rubber tired Good buggy were stolen from the hitching area near the Hodgson Company on Oconee street. The thief selected the best mule and the best buggy, then left with the pair without a crew. The mule belonged to George D. Thomas and the buggy to Eugene Lampkin. Police were notified. The team was recovered later that night around 9:30, but the thief escaped arrest.

Pinkerton Agents Probe Athens Fraud Case Taint
A Pinkerton agent has been in the city tracking J C Moore the Athens insurance man accused of a large early year fraud. Investigators report Moore’s wife used the Athens post office under the name Mrs Linsey and say sensational developments may follow once the couple is located. The agency claims Moore is in another state and plans action upon locating him.

Board of Education Meeting Elects New Teachers
The regular monthly board meeting approved new hires Prof. Paul Anderson as utility teacher at the High School, Mrs. Harvey Seagraves and Miss Mamie McKie for night school at Nantahala Avenue, and Pauline McKinley and Susie Kroner for city school crops. A petition by colored citizens urged locating the new negro school at Reese and Church streets, with Prof. L. S. Clark invited to present his case. Contracts for additions to city school buildings were reviewed and accepted before adjournment.

Clarke Delegation 10 Opposes Abolition of Board
A large delegation from Clarke County leaves for Atlanta to oppose a bill by Representative Rhodes that would abolish the county board and require direct elections. D W McGregor of Athens Died While Abroad in Scotland
D W McGregor, longtime Athens bookseller and pillar of local churches, died in Dundee Scotland at age sixty five while visiting his old home to regain health. He came to Athens in 1888, built a major book and stationery business, served as a deacon, Bible scholar, and leader in Tabernacle Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, a daughter Jessie, a granddaughter, two sisters and a brother.
