Atlanta February 13 The Georgia Supreme Court affirmed the Clarke county jury verdict in the Hezekiah Stevens murder case. The court ruled the crime a brutal murder not voluntary manslaughter and sent the case back for sentencing by Judge Brand.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Y M C A schedules a Friday meeting at 4 PM in the association parlor. After the gathering, a reception for the boys mothers follows, with two major physical demonstrations led by Mr. Sellers Rogers. A report on the recent auxiliary demonstration fair for the boys work department will be presented.
Last night after 7 o'clock a fire destroyed the big barn of Geo H Hulme two miles from Winterville on his farm. Ed Erwin supervised the farm. The blaze, likely incendiary, burned 2000 bushels of corn. Barn valued at $200 to $300.
Athens residents invited to view citywide property assessments in the mayor's office at City Hall. Cobb Lampkin and Weatherly Palmer announce hours 10 to 12 and 3 to 5 p.m. daily for ten days, excluding Sundays.

Rev Dr James Power Smith of Richmond will address University of Georgia students Monday about Stonewall Jackson the man and soldier. Smith served from Manassas to Appomattox and was aide-de-camp at Chancellorsville where Jackson fell, sharing the commander’s final hours.
Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards, near a century old, died after being burned in her room by a grate fire. The body will be taken to Athens for burial after the 10:30 Atlanta train arrives. service at Oconee Cemetery follows. She long belonged to Oconee Street Methodist church and lived on Oak Street, with many relatives and friends in Athens.
Athens city real estate values rose by about 325000 in the year, with 120 new houses added and total increased assessments reaching 322725. The group, Cobb Lampkin chairing, urges citizens to review the assessments at the mayor's office during the ten day period and praises steady local growth.
In Oglethorpe county Mr. W K Freeman was shot by his father Jos Freeman during a family gun scuffle at the younger Freeman’s home. The wound required amputation below the shoulder and doctors from Athens rushed to save the life. Both men are well known in Athens and the incident is being investigated as accidental.

Yesterday at 1 PM the funeral of Mrs Charles H Brand was held at the First Presbyterian Church Athens after her death Sunday in Baltimore. Dr E L Hill preached the sermon from She is not dead but sleepeth with floral tributes. the body was taken to Lawrenceville for burial. The Athens bar, local physicians and many friends attended.
Nick Deakides, the well known Athens fruit seller, is back at his business after a lengthy illness. He invites friends to visit and enjoy fresh, fine fruits, signaling his recovery and return to work.
Capt C D Lane and wife of Raleigh North Carolina are in the city on a several week visit. Lane is a railway conductor for the Norfolk Southern Railway and represents the Order of Railway Conductors Insurance plan with Pacific Mutual. He has been assigned Mississippi.

The Georgia Athletic Association meets this afternoon at 3 30 in the chapel to elect officers for athletic phases in college including the Red and Black staff. Interest is low and many offices may go unopposed. The meeting will begin promptly at 3 30 with nominations immediately.
The mayor issued a police order prohibiting parking on College Avenue between Clayton and Wilton streets. The slope sees up to twenty cars per hour, risking blockages during emergencies or fires. The measure aims to protect machine owners, the public, and city safety.

Last night reports from the bedside on Prince Avenue said Mrs. James Harbin was considerably better. Friends hope the improvement will be permanent.
