Death verdict affirmed for Clarke county murder

Atlanta February 13 The Georgia Supreme Court affirmed the Clarke county jury verdict in the Hezekiah Stevens murder case. The court ruled the crime a brutal murder not voluntary manslaughter and sent the case back for sentencing by Judge Brand.

Barn Fire Destroys Athens Farmer’s Barn

Last night after 7 o'clock a fire destroyed the big barn of Geo H Hulme two miles from Winterville on his farm. Ed Erwin supervised the farm. The blaze, likely incendiary, burned 2000 bushels of corn. Barn valued at $200 to $300.

Lady Elizabeth Edwards Dies By Burns at Home

Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards, near a century old, died after being burned in her room by a grate fire. Freeman Shooting Fatal Blow Over Gun Mishap Near Winterville

In Oglethorpe county Mr. W K Freeman was shot by his father Jos Freeman during a family gun scuffle at the younger Freeman’s home. The wound required amputation below the shoulder and doctors from Athens rushed to save the life. Both men are well known in Athens and the incident is being investigated as accidental.

Funeral of Mrs Brand Held in Athens

Yesterday at 1 PM the funeral of Mrs Charles H Brand was held at the First Presbyterian Church Athens after her death Sunday in Baltimore. Dr E L Hill preached the sermon from She is not dead but sleepeth with floral tributes. the body was taken to Lawrenceville for burial. The Athens bar, local physicians and many friends attended.

No Parking Ban Enforced on College Avenue
