Judge Russell Visits Town Sees Bright Oglethorpe Farms
Judge R B Russell of the court of appeals visited the city on his way home to Russell Ga. He owns a leading farm in Oglethorpe county and reports better crops than in years past. He spent days on his farm and praised prospects for a big harvest. Russell has many local friends and a warm reception during visits. Senate Passes Compulsory Education Bill in Senate
Special to the Banner Atlanta Ga August 8 The senate approved Sweat compulsory education bill 27 to 11 requiring children eight to twelve attend school twelve months unless exempted by age grade family needs or lack of books or distance. A Madison teachers plea for dues was noted. no action taken. The medical practice bill passed 121 to 3 in amended form, expanding the state examiners board to ten. The house also approved a McCrory resolution to form a commission to probe school book prices and allow suspension of contracts on six months notice, while rejecting a state printed and cost price book plan.
