Phagan Murder Trial Adds Expert Testimony
In Atlanta on August 7 1924 Dr Leroy Childs testified that a post mortem nine days after death cannot prove the timing of a head blow and that such a blow might cause death. Dr Roy Harris said cabbage in Phagan stomach could linger four hours and a half. The state rested after Harris reaffirmed murder by strangulation and that the head blow did not cause death.

Freight Wreck Delays Northbound Mail
A small wreck of two or three freight cars derailed on the S A L between Bogart and Statham delayed the northbound mail from Atlanta for over an hour. The morning southbound mail arrived late. The Athens yards switch engine assisted to clear the tracks and allow the passenger train to pass.
