Athens hosts as delegates arrive for two day State Horticultural Society session in the opera house. Opening at 10:30 includes welcome addresses and expert talks on peach culture irrigation canning and fertilization with Georgia figures and university involvement.
The University Summer School nears its final week as teachers engage in advanced sessions. Notable talks and sermons occur at First Methodist church and the chapel, with speakers from Emory Worcester and Wisconsin among others. The session closes with favorable notes on finances and future operations in Athens.
In Atlanta Georgia the afternoon session opens with a call to order at 8 p m. The meeting includes an opening question box for horticultural queries, reports from the vice president and treasurer, election of officers, choosing the next meeting place, and adjournment. A promotional note for Hood's Sarsaparilla promises to relieve tiredness.
The Ladies' Auxiliary of Yam O A will meet Tuesday at 5 o'clock in the association parlors. A meeting with important business to be transacted, and all members are urged to attend. Dr. King's New Life Pills advertised as a remedy for various ailments by local druggists.
Jim Thomas died instantly when struck by lightning while standing under a poplar tree two miles from the city yesterday afternoon. He was a member of the Sea board Air Line Bridge Gang.
A Rural Free Delivery route is approved by the U S postal department for Clarke county to run from Athens to Shackelford's store connecting with Jefferson route, giving Athens a direct line to Jefferson with daily mail in both directions. Carrier to be appointed from Jefferson, announcement expected late this month. Also notes DeWitts Witch Hazel Salve for cuts burns and other ailments, and reports a fatal lightning strike near Athens killing Jim Thomas of the bridge gang. Judge Hamilton McWhorter spending a few days in the city.
