Clarke County Tax Digest Shows Big Increase Over Last Year

Tax Receiver J. H. Dorsey completed Clarke county's digest for the current year and forwarded it to the Comptroller General. The total value rose from 6,609,344 to 6,879,816, an increase of 401,571. The report lists poll figures, professions, land, and property values, noting stronger gains across Athens and county due to numerous improvements and new plants. The rise reflects activity in building, manufacturing, and farm land values with expectations of continued growth next year.

The firm pays $50,000 annually for the wire service. Judge King signed a temporary order.

Athens Gas Co Increases Plant Capacity In Athens

The Athens Gas Company expands its Athens plant under superintendent J A Hodgson with six new retorts replacing five. The old retorts remain for emergencies and the upgrade aims to quadruple saleable gas and improve public service by September first.

Work Progresses on New Building at Athens Oil Mill

Rapid progress on a new fertilizer mixing plant at the Athens Oil Mill with at least fifty workers excavating and preparing a 300 foot long addition. Repairs on existing buildings continue to improve the plant's condition as the company aims to lead in a large regional fertilizer business.
