A notice goes to Civil War veterans near Athens Ga urging attendance at City Hall on April 26 1912 to organize for Memorial Day exercises and a reunion in Macon May 8 to 10. The camp roll lists officers and many Athens area members with towns Georgia names.
Rain and cold weather caused many major league games to be postponed or cancelled yesterday. Doubleheaders were played to make up for prior shortages, with late results reported including Southern circuit games and several intercity matchups. notable scores include Atlanta 11 Nashville 3 and New Orleans 3 Montgomery 3.
Taxpayers have kept the city clerk and treasurer busy since Monday as payments come in. The books close the night of the 30th, and those who fail to pay by then face legal action to collect the full amount due.

John W. Watkins, a white man, remains in the city prison after arrest on several charges. He has not paid the fines imposed, ten dollars for being drunk and ten dollars for contempt of court. The disorder included cursing at the police and failure to appear for trial after service of charges.
Hon Walter E Steed of Butler Tennessee is appointed to succeed the late Judge T G Lawson on the state board of education. Steed, a prominent lawyer and former state senator, was commissioned by Governor Brown on Thursday. Fresh items and local ads accompany the notice.
Reports from Augusta claim Major Arch Ivala Butt a Georgia passenger on the Titanic used force to clear a path for women and children, allegedly killing six men who threatened the lifeboat effort. The tale portrays him as a gallant defender amid panicked chaos as the ship sank.
Dr J Kinney crossing Milledge Avenue beside St Marys hospital collided with a street car. The Mitchell automobile was torn and dragged 50 feet. Dr McKinney escaped serious injury though slightly dazed as the street car and auto damaged both vehicles. The motorman cited glare and brakes failure as causing the crash.
The Clarke Rifles under Capt. J. W. Arnold are invited to attend the United Confederate Veterans reunion in Macon from May 8 to 10 and to participate in the troops parade. Athens will send a special train delegation in an honorary escort role for the Cobb-Delaney Camp VA. D. C. Members are urged to report to Captain Arnold before Sunday.

Washington April 18 On February 3 Congressman T M Bell introduced a bill to authorize the director of the census to collect and publish cotton statistics and the bill was passed by the house this week without a dissenting vote. Bell expects Senate passage this session. The law will aid cotton producers by matching buyer and consumer access to census data on U S cotton on hand and in storage.

In the court of ordinary Jesse I Little, a colored man, was examined for mental condition to determine fitness for treatment in the state sanitarium. After testimony the jury voted to commit him, and he will be sent to Milledgeville when space is available in the state institution.
