Mountain Sherman station fades from Mountaintop to legend
The Mount Sherman railroad station, perched 9 000 feet high with null vegetation and brutal conditions, has vanished after the Mount Sherman tunnel rerouted trains below. A granite monument 65 feet high now honors Ames brothers for completing the Union Pacific, while a faded tale of tramp shopkeepers and a windward shanty near the tracks lingers in memory.
