Skeleton Found Near Mud Springs Linked to Pioneer Dave Woodard

Camptenders for Mack Shelton discovered a complete human skeleton near Mud Springs north of Elgin. Believed to be Dave Woodard, tollgate keeper at Woodard's Station, the remains likely mark the pioneer’s death during a severe winter storm when he vanished while crossing the mountains. Relatives and settlers identify the site as the long-sought final resting place of Woodard, who lived between Milton and Summerville for decades.

A Domestic Blizzard Delivers Creditable Weston Talent

Weston players at the Athena Opera House offered a four act comedy drama A Domestic Blizzard. Under director Gilbert Baker the cast including Daniel Webster White Ralph Saling and Cathrine Davis impressed a fair audience. Music by J H Baker Nellien Stevens and Wilma Dupuis complemented a well paced performance with strong ensemble work and warm encores.

State railway officials tour eastern Washington to study water issues

Seattle Aug 7 John S McMillan and H A Fairchild state railroad commissioners and J W Lyons secretary depart by Northern Pacific for an eastern tour stopping Yakima Colfax and Spokane to confer with town leaders on water discrimination. They will present findings at the joint convention of railway and interstate commerce commissioners in Deadwood South Dakota on August 16.

Indian girl trafficking reported in Cape Noces case

Vancouver reports provincial police received word from Constable Jones that in Cape Noces the theft of Indian girls was discovered in open traffic. Authorities found several well authenticated cases where half breed and quarter breed girls were recently sold to women for sums between 200 and 1000 dollars. A full investigation is planned.

Fire destroys Pendleton home of Mr and Mrs Sensney

Last Saturday night the Pendleton residence of Mr and Mrs Ben Sensney and all its contents were burned. Mrs Sensney, alone in the house, lighted a lamp and dropped a burning match near a couch. the lamp and match ignited the couch, fire spreading before discovery at about 10:30 p m.
