City Considers Tax Cuts or Debt Reduction In 1928 Budget
City officials begin 1928 budget planning with two options: reduce bonded indebtedness or cut the city tax levy. July 1928 brings $140,800 in old refinancing bonds maturing, with a $57,000 sinking fund and potential $20,000 extra from levies. If funds retire the issue, $63,800 remains to be refunded for ten years. Tax cuts would raise larger refunds. Half of current tax revenue funds interest and principal on old debt.
