An old time column notes judges from Manhattan Agricultural College favored small well filled ears over long thick ones at the Atchison corn show. It links fat hog decline to rising lard prices and a broader push for slender waists and lighter goods, forecasting broader cultural shift including autos.

Traffic Trouble In Kansas City Spurs Citywide Upgrades
Seventy six people have been killed in local car crashes this year, up from sixty five at the same point last year. Authorities warn that widening city streets and abandoning grade crossings for subways will be needed at high cost. Smaller towns like Atchison may split traffic with two through streets. Resurfacing Kansas Avenue and Main next spring or summer aims to relieve Commercial Street and reduce danger from rising auto traffic.
