First National Bank teller F West Smith will report at Fort McDowell next Monday as an army alternate. Russell Adams Pomona College student will report for officers training June 3. Everett Bender 16-year-old longs to serve on a submarine but enlistment was blocked. His brother Harold 18 will report to the Navy at San Diego on July 5.

Infant Survives 60 Foot Fall In Fish Canyon

A Los Angeles infant fell sixty feet from a cliff in Fish Canyon while riding in a go cart with the father. The child was picked up unhurt with only slight bruises. Forest Ranger Mueller called the rescue a near miracle.

Lyman estate to drill tunnels for water supply

The Lyman estate owners in the Sierra Madre Villa tract plan a large scale water project driving tunnels into the mountain to create a permanent flow. Sunkist Marmalade Factories Planned in San Gabriel Valley

Plans to spread the Sunkist name include two new marmalade factories in the San Gabriel valley. San Dimas and Pomona will host plants, with a $60,000 San Dimas facility already under construction after ground breaking last week. The plant will use cull oranges from San Dimas La Verne and nearby associations, funded by members of the California Fruit Growers Exchange.

A party from Monrovia traveled to Big Bear Lake for three days last week. J R Mildren and son Carl L O Black and Dr Geo B Kalb endured snow storms and icy winds while fishing. They returned with about 25 trout averaging nearly two pounds each.

Arcadia School Events Set For May Activities

Visiting dignitaries from San Diego and Monrovia attend Arcadia schools during the week. A May 25 hike to Roberts Camp and May 29 Visitors Day invite parents. Graduation is May 31 at the Presbyterian church with diplomas and a brief program. Mrs. Nettie Cockerline leads the first room to reach 1090 percent Junior Red Cross membership with 28 pupils.

Pasadena land cut extension granted and train speed debate

At a Wednesday night board meeting W H Elwell of Pasadena received a one year extension to complete street cuts on his land between Huntington Drive and the railroad tracks and posted a $500 bond. John S Grady and W D Millard families relocated. Santa Fe Superintendent Hitchcock urged trains run 38 to 40 mph to maintain the grade, promising a bulletin to engineers.
