Picture Plays at Colonial Sunday in Monrovia

Mrs. Ruth Cassill, owner of the Colonial Theater, will present motion pictures on Sundays. Her first offering is Their Compact starring Francis X. Bushman. She aims for morally clean, attractive films to draw soldiers posted at Arcadia balloon school and prevent trips to Los Angeles. A Sunday matinee is scheduled at the Colonial at 2:39 p.m.

Ground broken for new Outpost theater near city hall

The new theater site shows eucalyptus logs staged at the lot beside city hall. E L Sapp from Monrovia plowed the ground with a small Beaman garden tractor that drew crowd attention. Contractor C C Beaty says the theater should be ready in about three weeks with post holes to be installed this week.

Burglars Loot Baker’s Toggery Near Monrovia

Thieves cut a screen and window at Baker's Toggery on South Myrtle Ave Monrovia and stole stock valued over 300 dollars. They took suits trousers silk shirts hats gloves and other items and later hid many stolen articles in cactus near the Santa Anita wash by Arcadia.

Demarest Pioneer Dies in Los Angeles Hospital

Homer H. Demarest longtime Monrovia agent for the Pacific Electric railway died at a Los Angeles hospital shortly after 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon after about two weeks with an internal trouble he had been treated there.

Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce asked Arcadia Board of City Trustees to settle with E A Mothershead for crop taken under government lease for the balloon school. Mothershead values crop at about $1000 plus $275 paid and $275 owed on the lease. letters were returned when no agreement was reached.

The San Gabriel Valley Packing company protested to the city trustees Wednesday night that the four dollar daily license is prohibitive and asked the rate be lowered. It is probable the ordinance will be amended so that dealers with established routes will pay less.

Memorial Service in Arcadia Honors Day With Sermon and Choir

A Memorial Service directed by Rev. M. M. Noaker featured prayers, music by the choir, and readings of the President's Proclamation by Harry Metcalf. Dan W. Simms gave the main address, with Prof. J. V. Kelleher sharing a follow up talk. The congregation sang The Star Spangled Banner as the benediction concluded, though turnout was regarded as disappointing.
