Several residents share weekly visits family gatherings and entertainment in nearby towns including Barbara Evans with her grandmother in South Santa Anita and Miss Ethel Grimes with friends at a Hollywood cards night hosted by L F Boyce. Mr and Mrs Chas W Stewart moving into new home on Santa Anita Avenue while A L Parker and party enjoyed a Los Angeles trip to hear Harry Lauder.

Y M C A Boys Aged 10 Help In Harvest Camps

Los Angeles County YMCA will switch from recreation to work camps this summer. Young men will aid in food production and care for those at home during wartime. Dr. Silas Evans of Occidental College spoke on The New America. Officers reelected include C A Griffith of Azusa and J S Tillheimer of San Dimas.

Monrovia High School hosted the second quarterly meeting of the Monrovia Federation P T A bringing together groups from Monrovia Arcadia Azusa Duarte and Sierra Madre. A grace period of one month allows drivers to obtain the operator's license before enforcement begins on roads statewide. The State Motor Vehicle department will command police to request registration cards and licenses starting February 1. Sunshine Dominates Los Angeles County in 1917 Weather Report

The 1917 annual report by Dr. Ford A. Carpenter notes Los Angeles County enjoyed nine sunshine deficit days with an average daylight sunshine of 75 percent. The year saw a mean temperature of 62.8 degrees, high of 105 on June 17, low of 38 on January 27, 12 days above 90, 11 days at or below 40, and 28 days with frost. Rain totaled 45. inches, February brought the heaviest rain, 4.49 inches, and the most rainfall in 24 hours was 1.5 inches on January 18–19, with 213 clear days and 101 cloudy. The wind averaged 5.5 mph from the southwest.

Help Wanted for Assistants to County Health Officer

Two assistants to County Health Officer J L Pomeroy are sought at starting salaries of 150 dollars. The Civil Service Commission announces an exam for the county service positions to be held February 8 at the hall of records. Separate exams for a stationary steam engineer at 90 dollars a month and for firemen for steam boilers at 80 dollars a month were set for February 16.
