Stealing Sacks Incident In Monrovia

Two Black youths aged 18 and 19 were taken by the city marshal after raiding sacks belonging to Mr. Mothershead. Appearing before Justice Glass, the father of one boy declined prosecution. The judge reprimanded them and released them.

Boy with Deputy Badge Challenged by City Marshal

A Mexican boy in Arcadia wore a silver deputy sheriff badge on his coat while riding in a wagon. City Marshal Treen stopped him and asked the source. The boy said it was made at a dump on Duarte Road. the marshal took the badge and will return it to the rightful owner after application.

Rev Stanley Held Faces Trial for Worthless Check

The Rev Herbert D Stanley, who preached in Monrovia and claimed the city as home, was held for trial in Santa Ana superior court on a $3 worthless check charge. He gave no defense. Monrovia police learned he had been paroled from Oregon's state prison in late 1916 after arriving there. He previously said he was city editor of the St Paul Pioneer Press before becoming a minister. He had been jailed in Oregon for obtaining money under false pretenses.

A blaze swept from a brush burn by Japs near First and Orange into a pile of logs opposite Mrs. Coughlin’s home. City Marshal Treen and a crew fought the flames with extended hose, extinguishing the fire with nominal loss.

Warning signs in Azusa at railroad crossings

In compliance with state law the superintendent of streets Jeffrey this week set twenty six warning signs at all railroad crossings in Azusa. Signs installed on both sides of the Pacific Electric and Santa Fe lines and furnished free by the Goodrich Rubber Company, bearing an inconspicuous advertisement.

Fire-break work under way from Arroyo Seco to Mount Lowe

United States Forest Service crews began a fire-break from the Arroyo Seco toward Mount Lowe with Ranger W D Marx in charge. In Fish Canyon Ranger W V Mendenhall leads a crew linking the Fish Canyon trail to Monrovia. Hayward supervises a Santa Anita Monrovia peak break now being grubbed and completed. City Hall Finishing Bid Call and Initial Payment Made

A special meeting of the Board of city trustees held Tuesday evening arranged for bidding on finishing work for the new city hall. The building is progressing, with bids to be let after exterior structure completion. The first payment of 1483.75 was made to contractor P. J. Dawson.

Gifts of 940000 Trigger Arcadia Grand Jury Probe

Two gifts totaling 46000 to Mr and Mrs L S Emerson from H R Stocker of Arcadia prompted a county grand jury investigation. Emersons say 40000 was in a bank, no concealment. Stocker had employed Emerson for business tasks and Emerson served as housekeeper.
