With two months to go, four city trustees Simms Stoker Slater and Parker face likely seats ending this spring. Miss Grimes appears chosen for city clerk, while F. L. Urden is not expected to seek treasurer again. O. D. Harris may run for trustee, given civic work and local recognition. A candidate lineup is anticipated soon.
A secret committee tours California citrus districts seeking fourteen or more young women to represent allied nations at the Eighth National Orange Show from February 20 to 28. Pearl Nelson of Lindsay is slated as Columbia, with selections emphasizing beauty talent and social prominence.
Tea party hosted in the new home of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Schwarzkopf last Friday honored Miss Kathryn Schwarzkopf with sister Bertha assisting. Guests included Eleanor Feiverest, Vanda Rackus, Roxanne Bishop, Anna Snellicvy, Jyma Dusenbery, Mildred Pitt, Mildred Swanson, Floramay Coolidge, Frances Given, Edith De Baun, Gracy Tavis, Muriel Rovee, Carroll Bihlmeier, Alvin Eager, Glenn Coolidge, Rupert Smith, Philip Bortells, Emerson Mollenkopf, Irving Swanson, Raymond Crall, Will Wilson, Wirt Wil ens and Donald Williams.
At the Board of Trade meeting last Monday Arcadia shifted affiliation to the Duarte Monrovia Arcadia sector in the County Farm Bureau. The districting change places Arcadia with Monrovia and Duarte due to proximity. Dr Billings was elected secretary of the Duarte Monrovia Arcadia sector.
A $4500 residence in Arcadian Acres began this week for S. E. Alden of Los Angeles. The bungalow style home will feature mahogany finish, white enamel bedrooms, tiled baths, and hardwood floors. Harold B. Dunn of Monrovia is the architect and Joseph Thompson the contractor.
The Arcadia chapter of the Red Cross requests the loan of a sewing machine for use at Mrs. C. A. Billings home. The request stresses urgent need to aid ongoing good work.
The First National Bank requests all holders desiring to swap 3 percent Liberty bonds for 4 percent bonds to submit by March 1 to enable a single conversion. Exchanges should be in writing with bonds on deposit. Treasury Secretary McAdoo warns investors against swapping for unknown securities and advises holding bonds as permanent investments.
Fresh vegetables travel from El Monte to Los Angeles homes in two hours via automobile post delivery. Shipper A. B. Yarmer and consignee Mrs. L. I. Bromilow used the service Saturday. Perishables arrive four to eight days fresher than by rail, with packages limited to fifty pounds and eighty four inches in circumference. Postal officials note rapid household uptake and foresee widespread delivery to kitchen doors.
Confirmation of the appointment of Postmaster Frank Zimmerman for another four year term was received last Friday morning. His term expires September 15 1917. There was no opposition to his appointment.
Arcadia fans bought 405 war savings certificates totaling 1682.85 and 61 thrift stamps totaling 15.25, a strong show under Chas W Stewart. The campaign, led by Miss Wilson, highlights local support amid drought and looming water-supply concerns. A committee including Dan ileson, Holmes and A L Parker will study conditions here as Monrovia undergoes similar inquiries.
City trustees plan a regular session next Wednesday night to consider letting a contract for the city hall completion and to address several matters of interest including the water question.
A calm 800 pound sorrel horse was taken in by Marshal Treen this week and is kept at the pound. It was first found near Dr. Billings home and later near Mr. Parker, attracted by alfalfa. Treen has advertised the horse.

E F Higuera superintendent of Pacific Rock and Gravel in Duarte was badly injured when his car turned turtle at Huntington Drive and Foot Hill Boulevard. He sustained a brain concussion but is expected to recover after treatment at Haben hospital.
Edgar Billings and his wife, brother of Dr. C A Billings, are spending the winter in Long Beach and are weekend guests at the Billings home here.

M S Pottenger becomes vice-president succeeding W L Hodges at the Granite Savings Bank during the annual meeting. The National Bank of Monrovia reduced directors from 10 to 9, listing W M Baird Chas Anderson W L Hodges M S Pottenger Fr M Pottenger W F Marshall M R Williams A L Smith and A Adams.
Mrs. Delia McGowan aged 68 living with her sister Mrs. Ida Marotz at 1711 Bushnell avenue South Pasadena was fatally struck by an eastbound Monrovia car at Businell street and Huntington Drive while crossing with three other women. She died shortly after the 3:30 PM incident. She had been a former grand matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Montana.
J W Box watchman for Bettingen properties on Hillcrest avenue Oak Knoll Pasadena recounted capturing a ten pound possum in the area that was raiding chicken coops. The animal was carried uptown in a bicycle basket and offered for about $2 50, ending any buyer's plan for a feast.
The California Development Board weighs whether to import Mexican or Chinese farm labor during wartime. A resolution urged restricting Mexican labor be removed while favoring Chinese workers to boost wartime food production. Officials cite fears of German propaganda and the need to shield American labor from competition after military service.
