Birthday tribute for Pennsylvania relatives in Southern California

Four women from Pennsylvania honored at a January afternoon birthday reception hosted by Mrs. Jennie A. Wells at 232 West Palm Avenue Los Angeles. The First National Bank trimmed its board to five after deaths reduced the ranks. Current directors are J. H. Sartori H. S. McKee Joseph Fowler J. H. Bartle and W. A. Chess. Instructions describe making sugar candy in a granite kettle with sugar glucose or corn sirup water and cream of tartar heated to 280 degrees. Flavor with peppermint wintergreen or sassafras, color half red, pull and twist around white, braid or form into baskets and canes.
