Activist Lee Ferguson left for Montgomery to oppose the anti boycott measure pending in the Alabama legislature. The bill would prohibit boycotting and blacklisting and impose fines up to 500 dollars or up to sixty days hard labor for violations.

At a creditors meeting in Chattanooga Tennessee on September 22 Thomas Bush of Birmingham Thomas Gillespie of Treston New Jersey and Orion L Halbuat of Chattanooga were elected trustees to manage the Southern Car and Foundry company assets. Creditors filed claims totaling about 1 9 million dollars. The trustees will not disrupt current affairs or operations while two already act as receivers TG Boah and T A Gillespie.

Montgomery Sept 22 Nine days remain for legislative action on a relief bill by Senator Smith of Clay to restore pensions for old soldiers and widows deprived by former Probate Judge Whatley. The bill would appropriate about 1400 to cover the shortfall with funds recovered from Whatley’s bondmen. The measure aims to aid two dozen elderly citizens facing hardship.
Mr L T Smith, present post master of Anniston, will enter the race for reappointment and campaign until the December 1 appointment. Mr J M Ragan of Oxford had announced candidacy weeks earlier. Both hold strong endorsements and may be the only applicants, making the contest likely to be close.
