Anniston prepares for a week long carnival with gates opening Monday at 7 p.m. Attractions include Hagenback's Animal Show and the Midgets. The program runs through Friday with daily Midway events and a prohibition on gambling. Exalted Ruler Joe Saka delivers the opening address.
Oxford reports the death of Robert Armentrout after a train accident in Roucevert West Virginia He was about 20 and a son of Mrs S G Armentrouut of Oxford He died after his legs were severed and his body crushed as he attempted to reboard a moving train He died around 9 PM and his remains will be buried near his old West Virginia home
A gin near Alexandria owned by Edmondson and Leighton of Anniston was completely destroyed by fire at 7 o'clock last night. Loss set at 8500, likely covered by insurance. Dressed turkeys at Brightman's market.
Montgomery reports the failure of the Eufaula National Bank leaves former Governor William J. Oates in a substantial loss reportedly around 50000 dollars. A correspondent observed Oates in his office stating the loss but refusing to publish details. The bank may pay depositors dollar for dollar, though no records show bonds tied to the Oates name. Further developments expected.
The Presbytery of North Alabama will convene in Anniston on the second Tuesday in April at the First Presbyterian church. This week in Attalla sessions were well attended with Rev. Harris E. Kirk of Florence delivering the opening sermon. Rev. Newton Smith of Good Water was elected Moderator and John N. Frye of Anniston named Secretary. Anniston was chosen as the site for the next gathering.
Monday night Punch Robertson and company perform The Man in the Iron Mask for Anniston theatergoers. Donald Robertson stars with praised stage settings and elaborate costumes while carnival pricing lowers lower floor to 50 cents.
Prominent Anniston figures organize a housing company to supply homes for newcomers. Probate Judge Emmett F. Crook, W. P. Acker, J. H. M. Hill, Col. E. Locke, and James Buckler lead with capital of 10000 dollars. Subscriptions begin Monday at Locke Mountain & Co. Offices. The plan asks small monthly payments until ten percent is paid, then phased payments of 5 to 25 dollars per month.
